The Courage to Care

Colossians 3:12 – “Therefore, as God’s chosen people… clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.”

We live in a world that prizes strength — but often misunderstands it. True strength isn’t the absence of emotion; it’s the willingness to care deeply even when it costs something.

Jesus modeled courage through compassion. He touched lepers when no one else would. He stopped for interruptions others avoided. He wept at a friend’s tomb. His heart wasn’t hard — it was holy.

Caring takes courage because it opens you up to hurt. But a tender heart is a powerful witness in a calloused world. Don’t let cynicism convince you that care is naïve. Love bravely.

Reflection questions:

  • Who around you needs a compassionate response instead of correction?

  • How has someone’s empathy strengthened you in the past?

  • What helps you keep your heart soft in a hard world?
