Interruptions or Invitations?
/Proverbs 16:9 – “In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.”
It’s funny how interruptions rarely feel holy when they happen. You plan your day, map your schedule, and then — bam — an unexpected phone call, delay, or detour changes everything. My natural instinct is to see these moments as nuisances. But lately, I’ve begun to wonder if some interruptions are actually invitations.
I think about Jesus on His way to heal Jairus’ daughter. A woman interrupted Him, desperate just to touch the edge of His cloak. That “interruption” became one of the most beautiful healing stories in Scripture. What looked like a disruption was actually divine direction.
So I’m trying to change my perspective. When the email comes that rearranges my calendar, or when someone stops me in conversation right as I’m leaving the store, I ask, What if this is an invitation?
God’s will often hides inside what looks inconvenient. The plans we hold so tightly can be the very things He loosens to show us His better way.
Reflection questions:
When was the last time an interruption led to something unexpectedly good?
How do you usually respond when your plans are disrupted?
What might God be inviting you to notice today?
